PBST (Phosphate Buffered Saline with Tween 20)

It enables convenient and rapid preparation of 1X PBST buffer aqueous solution by dissolving its instant granules or tablets in the corresponding volume of deionized water until fully dissolved, yielding a solution containing 0.01M phosphate buffer, 0.0027M potassium chloride, 0.137M sodium chloride and 0.05% Tween 20 (pH 7.4 at 25°C). The solution is recommended for immediate preparation and use; long-term storage of concentrated solutions above 1X is not advisable, as some salts may form insoluble precipitates.

Description

PBST (Phosphate Buffered Saline with Tween 20), namely Phosphate Buffered Saline containing Tween 20, can provide a relatively stable ionic environment and pH buffering capacity. It is a commonly used buffered salt solution in biology, mainly applied in experiments such as immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), as well as for washing immunoblot membranes.

PBST contains Tween 20, a non-ionic detergent with a blocking effect. During washing steps and immunoassay procedures (e.g., ELISA and Western blotting), it reduces non-specific binding and protein-protein interactions, thereby minimizing non-specific binding and staining to ensure clearer results and blot spots.
